incest taboo
Definition
The prohibition against sexual relations and reproduction among close blood relatives. According to Reay Tannahill ( Sex in History , 1980), the incest taboo appears to have been the first human taboo. Most human societies have some form of incest taboo (most cultures prohibit parent-child or brother-sister sexual conlact), but some exceptions did occur in history. For example, brother-sister marriages were allowed among the presumably divine rulers of ancient Egypt and among the royal families of the Incas, but were prohibited among commoners. QUOTES: From Encyclopedia of Graffiti Robert Reisner & Lorraine Wechsler (1974):
-- ' Call it incest, but I want my mommy.'
-- ' Incest, a game the whole family can play.'
-- ' Incest is relative.'
-- ' Vice is nice, but incest is best.'
